The Government of Canada has introduced a National Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence, a plan designed to create a society free from such violence, emphasizing support for victims and survivors across the country, which was developed through a forum including Provincial and Territorial Ministers responsible for the Status of Women. The plan was designed to change societal norms and address economic and social factors contributing to gender-based violence, ensuring timely and culturally appropriate services for those affected. The plan is structured around five main pillars: supporting victims, preventing violence, ensuring a responsive justice system, implementing Indigenous-led approaches, and improving social infrastructure and environments
CPHR Alberta conducted a survey among its members to understand the landscape of gender-based violence in the workplace. The goals of the survey aligned with that of the National Action Plan, and will allow for discussion on how the workplace can contribute to achieving these goals:
- Engage all people in Canada in changing the social norms, attitudes and behaviors that contribute to gender- based
- violence.
- Address the social and economic detriments that contribute to and perpetuate gender-based violence.
- Ensure anyone facing gender-based violence has reliable and timely access to culturally appropriate and accessible
- protection and services.
- Improve the health, social, economic, and justice outcomes of those impacted by gender-based violence.
